A "Government of India Tourist Office" on the Main Bazaar at Paharganj sold us a "luxury" Golden Triangle tour. The "luxury hotel" was a hostel and the "AC car" a Tata with broken windows. The real government office is on Janpath — this was a commission shop.

Auto driver near Connaught Place claimed the meter was broken and charged 800 rupees for a 2 km ride — the metered fare is around 80. He drove in circles first so it would "look" longer. Always insist on the meter or book an Uber auto.

A tout claimed the east gate was "closed for VIPs" and that only the south gate was open, offering a rickshaw there for 500 rupees. All gates were open and the east gate was a five-minute walk. Never believe touts about ticket gates.

The "gem certification scheme" shop showed us certificates from a lab we'd never heard of. "Rubies" at $400 tested as colored glass at a jeweler in Delhi. The driver's commission scheme is famous in Jaipur. Buy gems only from licensed stores.
